Cork-Based Bath Tins

Lush Cosmetics is Replacing Its Reusable Metal Tins with Eco-Friendly Cork

Lush Cosmetics has made a name for itself within the world of ethical beauty and sustainable packaging by offering a number of package-free products, some of which can be kept in reusable aluminium tins for the ease of at-home storage and travel.

On a recent visit to Portugal’s Alentejo to see the not-for-profit group Eco Interventions, Lush's team was inspired to replace its aluminium shampoo bar tins with cork dishes. Since Lush offers shampoos, conditioners and solid soap bars that stay slightly wet after use, the new and improved cork-based tins offer fast-drying and moisture-wicking benefits that help to preserve the lifespan of the product.

As a material, cork may only legally harvested every few years to prevent strain on the trees. Additionally, cork is a natural, non-toxic material that can simply be returned to the earth at the end of its useful life.
