The balanced design of the Wuyuan Skywells Hotel is not only evident in mix-material use, but also with respect to modernity and historic value. anySCALE architects refurbished the 300 year-old mansion into an inviting luxurious boutique hotel.

The space celebrates its Chinese heritage with preserved timber frames and wooden carvings, as well as authentic Tian Jing (Skywells) that allow light to reach the peaceful ambiance of the inner courtyards. anySCALE chose to incorporate metal framing and other modernity elements that seamlessly translate themselves into the narrative of the historic building.

Situated in the Yan village in Eastern China, the luxurious and balanced design of the Wuyuan Skywells Hotel successfully inserts itself into the physical context of the millennium old rural town.
