The Cuba Wand Helps Parents Check their Infant's Breathing Rate

The 'Cuba Wand' is a baby breathing rate monitor that was developed to help concerned parents quickly and easily check their baby's breathing rate. The device was conceptualized and designed by a team of Australian doctors and medical engineers to make this common healthcare assessment an easy task in the home.

Cuba Wand was developed with insights from parents of newborns and guidance from practicing doctors. The device includes a simple hand-held wand that accurately detects baby's breaths, and provides parents with a glowing green light and gentle vibration with each breath. Early users have found it much easier to accurately measure the baby's breathing rate than trying to feel for belly movements or tiny nasal airflow's.

"Respiratory (breathing) rate is closely monitored in hospital settings as it is an early indicator of patient deterioration" Cuba Wand co-inventor and CEO, Dylan Rowe, said. "We have used thermometers to check sick children at home for generations, but it can be difficult for parents to get an accurate measurement of breathing rate. A lot of the breathing monitors currently available to parents are focused on SIDS prevention and need to be physically attached to the baby"

It is Cuba Wand's hope that this device will help parents get a more holistic picture of their child's health if they are concerned the child is getting sick.
