Microsoft's Azure AI Platform Will Be Integrated with the Fairlearn Toolkit

Microsoft's Azure AI platform will be updated to feature anti-bias software. The scientists that that develop AI tools often do so with their own biases, leading to technology that increases discrimination. In an effort to improve upon these practices, Microsoft's Azure platform will be updated to feature its own Fairlearn toolkit, which helps companies building AI software test for their own biases.

The toolkit, which will be available in July, enables data scientists and developers to see not only what biases slipped through the cracks, but how those biases could impact the lives of the user. For example, the toolkit was used in testing on EY's automated loan algorithm, ultimately revealing the gender bias within the system. According to the toolkit's results, EY's model was 15.3% more likely to give men loans versus women.
Trend Themes
1. Anti-bias AI Tools - Companies are developing anti-bias AI tools to prevent discrimination in technology.
2. Fairness Testing - The Fairlearn toolkit will allow data scientists and developers to test for bias in their AI algorithms.
3. Bias Transparency - The Fairlearn toolkit provides transparency into the biases that AI algorithms may possess.
Industry Implications
1. AI Development - There is a growing need for AI development companies to implement anti-bias testing tools in their software.
2. Finance - The Fairlearn toolkit can help companies in the finance industry detect and avoid gender or other kinds of biases in their AI algorithms.
3. HR Tech - HR tech companies could use the anti-bias software to reduce biased decisions in their recruitment and selection processes and improve diversity and inclusion.
