The Automated Colour Field art installation shows a rainbow of hues changing in random sequence on a minute basis. Although it seems like an elaborate work of art, it is actually quite simple.
Created by Australia-based artist Rebecca Baumann, the Automated Colour Field art installation is made up of 100 flip-clocks which have been arranged into a basic rectangular shape. The numbers have been covered with paper of different hues, inadvertently creating a pattern like that which used to appear on TV channels that suddenly conked out.
Since each clock is separately battery-operated, the Automated Colour Field art installation isn't connected or networked, which gives it a poetic presence. It was on display earlier this year at the Australian Centre for Contemporary Art in Melbourne.
