Artist Lee Price's Sweet Oil Paintings are Tastefully Gratifying

Artist Lee Price creates realistic oil paintings showcasing women with an overindulgent obsession with food.

These women are shown in their private settings like on top of their beds or submerged in bath water, and surrounded by an assortment of junk food. The paintings look true to life, however the accuracy behind these paintings is what is more haunting. Her work touches on the sensitive issue surrounding so many women: body image and addiction. Price admits that these portraits resemble her being excessive with food, because it is forbidden yet comforting.

As a testament to this series, Price says "In this society, there’s so much pressure for women to be thin. We’re not supposed to have appetites – and not just for food, but for a lot of things. We’re the givers and not the consumers, and I think some of my recent paintings are about the women staring at the viewers and saying, ‘I’m not going to censor my appetite."
