Unraveling Landscape Tapestries

Artist Ana Teresa Barboza Tells Stories Through Her Tapestries

Talented craftsperson and artist Ana Teresa Barboza’s beautiful embroidery artworks depict several breathtaking landscape scenes. Barboza constructs images of landscape scenes such as oceans, mountains and forests with beautiful technicolor thread.

Each of Barboza’s tapestries are contained within a circular frame. Barboza expertly knits the thread through a mesh fabric to replicate the landscape designs. As the viewer begins to look outside the frame, they notice that the embroidery is actually beginning to come undone. The threads are unraveling and spilling out of the frame perhaps as a commentary on the on-going human destruction of the environment. I think Barboza is also commenting on how the environment is a free entity that cannot be contained by civilization.

Barboza’s work has been showcased in various art galleries and exhibits.
