Sophie Cardin Creates Accostage for the Art Souterrain Festival

The Art Souterrain Festival takes place in Montreal once a year, and Sophie Cardin attended this year, producing the Accostage piece. The installation is a massive cardboard anchor placed in the Guy Favreau complex.

According to The Contemporist, the anchor "is a reference to the contradiction between an anchor’s heavy weight and this anchor’s light and fragile cardboard composition. This piece expresses how this is felt as a necessity by immigrating people, while also exploring the instability and the transitory conditions they experience." The piece is huge, taking up much of the main lobby area in the Guy Favreau complex.

Hopefully onlookers will get this sense of contradiction when looking at this structure. This is one of the many designs put together for the Art Souterrain Festival in Montreal, which started in 2009.
