The Aria and Avia Lamps Embody an Elegant but Spectral Asymmetry

Beauty is a word that would certainly describe the Aria and Avia Lamps. Although symmetry is often greatly appreciated visually in chandelier design, this pair manages to impress without it.

The Zaha Hadid studio created this dynamic duo for the Italian brand called Slamp. Both elaborate illuminators comprise up to six interior light sources that radiate outwards, as well as one that points directly down as a spotlight.

Both are composed of a collection of up to 50 shards of plastic that hang down and around the entire perimeter of the pendant lamp with only tight gaps between them. No two pieces are alike, so the silhouettes that form are unbalanced, but fluid. The Aria Lamp features translucent fins while the Avia Lamp is composed of either white or black opaque components.
