Airtight Eco-Friendly Archive Buildings

Architype Uses Weathering Steel to Wrap This Structure

Architype -- a company that is recognized for its sustainability efforts, designs an archive building to house The Imperial War Museum's most important and sensitive collections. The project is located in Duxford, England.

When designing the structure, Architype embraced passive building technologies. Through the implementation of this, the firm is able to reach an ecological footprint that is very low. In conjunction with this, the archive building is made to be extremely cost-effective -- it boasts a rectangular structure that has been wrapped in affordable and easy-to-maintain weathering steel facade.

The structure is named the 'IWM Paper Store' and is recognized as "the most airtight building in the world." Its functionality allows for the archive building to maintain the contents -- artworks, photographs, letters, and diaries, in the best possible condition.
