Icon-Inspired Seating

The Apps Furniture Line Takes its Concept From Smartphone Screens

Designed to look like the icons on a smartphone screen, the Apps furniture line from Dutch firm Artifort features cube-shaped frames with rounded corners

The apps furniture certainly looks comfortable. Both the one-person (1.0) and two-person (2.0) versions are built using an internal wooden frame, back webbing, and an intelligent seat that utilizes a thick layer of foam to increase comfort.

The concept for the furniture came from Richard Hutten who combined the straightforward style of designer Kho Liang with the flowing forms and basic shapes that characterize a lot of Artifort furniture. "On the one hand, it is a very simple and therefore timeless design; on the other hand, it is entirely contemporary thanks to the flowing forms and a basic shape that appears to be based on icons displayed on a smartphone," states Hutten on his website.

The Apps furniture line will be presented at Interieur 2012 at Kortrijk in Belgium and should be available to consumers shortly after.
