Animal Regulation by Lui Di is a surreal photo series that plops giant creatures such as rabbits, frogs and deer in the middle of metropolises. Of course, these animals aren't known for their dinosaur sizes. They have been enlarged to comment on the decrepit housing situation in Beijing, China, the hometown of the photographer. He states, "I had a vague but strong feeling that there was something missing between the ground and the sky."
That something missing, in his mind, happened to be these large beasts. Animal Regulation by Lui Di focuses mainly on forgotten and depleted back streets, construction sites and tenement courtyards. The images are set to be shown as part of Barbara Pollack’s My Generation, an exhibition focusing solely on the new post-Mao generation of dissident Chinese artists.
