Andrew Burges Architects Designed a Floating Pool for the Sydney Harbor

Andrew Burges Architects (ABA) has been commissioned to reimagine and add to the famous Sydney Harbor. With climate change and accessibility in mind, the architects have created a unique floating pool scheme for public recreational use.

The Harbor faces a flood threat due to all the mid-century additions and high rises added to the Harbor throughout the years. Rather than building directly on land, the architects chose to design a floating volume attached to the ground by a floating pathway.

The architecture firm has offered up its rendering and templates to Sydney's mayor's office, which consists of a circular volume floating on the river and attached by a walkable entranceway. Clover Moore, Mayor of Sydney, explains "the vision rests on improving water quality" and making the waterways safe for recreational use.
