Anastasia Korosteleva Photographs Boarding School Students

For her latest series 'Classmates,' Anastasia Korosteleva photographed boarding school students in East London, South Africa.

Perhaps the most endearing aspect of this project is Korosteleva's ability to steer away from the "cute." It would be easy to rely on the kids' cuteness and leave it at that, but instead, Korosteleva photographs her subjects as though they were mini-adults. There is a humor, wit and wisdom in each photograph that goes far beyond the subjects' years. The officialism of the boarding school uniforms only works to emphasize the subjects' status as mini-adults.

The uniforms, along with the grassy school grounds, also have the double function of adding an element of nostalgia to Korosteleva's charming boarding school series.
