American Airlines Testing Broadband on Flights

Now American Airlines has become the latest carrier to play around with wireless in the skies. Specifically, AA and Aircell have struck a deal to begin offering broadband internet on transcontinental flights.

How much quicker could a flight go if you could bring along your own computer and actually do some surfing? Flight time could become highly productive for business travelers, and a lot more entertaining for those just needing a bit of entertainment. And, all those social networking addicts wouldn't have to til landing to get their Facebook fix.

“We understand that broadband connectivity is important to our business customers and others who want to use their PDAs and laptops for real-time, in-flight broadband communications,” said Dan Garton, Executive Vice President - Marketing for American Airlines. The cost for the connectivity has not been announced.
