Alyssa Pheobys Mumtaz Creates Structured Fabric Artworks

Artist Alyssa Pheobys Mumtaz laboriously creates drawings on textiles. Not a very forgiving material to use in this way, it is only natural that she went down a more structured route when it comes to the imagery. Focusing predominantly on geometric patterns that have a very tribal-like influence, Alyssa Pheobys Mumtaz gives the textiles what appear to be embroidered embellishments.

Living and working around the globe such places as Pakistan, rural Wyoming, New Mexico, Washington, DC and Spain, it is only natural that Alyssa Pheobys Mumtaz's work would have such a worldly appeal. Creating a strong graphic language, the drawings often have a natural hue, but she is never afraid to introduce some bold blues at times.

Alyssa Pheobys Mumtaz will be teaching at Columbia in New York this spring.
