Albourne Estate is Entering the Apéritif Market With a New Expression

English winery Albourne Estate in Sussex is entering the vermouth craze with an expression made of 10 botanicals from mature based wines. Called '40,' in honor of the botanicals in the blend, the 18% abv semi-dry vermouth was created by Albourne Estate owner Alison Nightingale. The vermouth was created with the intentions of putting an English twist on an Italian classic and creating an expression that could be drunk straight.

The vermouth itself is crafted with a considerable amount of botanicals, including rosemary, thyme, rose petals, chamomile, saffron, cardamom, coffee beans and tea. The wine used in the vermouth base comes from matured Albourne Estate based wines, which are then blended with sugar and the botanicals. The resulting flavor is complex and elegant and is meant to be enjoyed as an apéritif or in cocktails.
