Mad Designs Terminal 3 at the Changchun Longjia Airport

The current state of airport terminal designs shows a movement toward the slick and the futuristic, with architectural motifs that denote easiness and efficiency. The airport terminal design that Chinese studio MAD developed in the city of Changchun, Jilin province, China is no different. The practice was tasked with designing Terminal 3 at the Changchun Longjia International Airport and it chose to embrace inspiration from a floating feather. The structure has a fan-shaped form and it will span a whopping 270,000 square meters once it is complete. With the approximation of welcoming 22 million passengers a year and 54 aircraft gates, it is no surprise that MAD focused on developing a structure that is slick and airy.

MAD is working on this airport terminal design in collaboration with the China Airport Planning & Design Institute and the Beijing Institute of Architectural Design.
