Mid-Air Laser Displays

Aerial Burton by Akira Asano Projects Text and Imagery

Aerial Burton is a piece of technology that rethinks how people interact with text and imagery. It essentially displays such data with a physical screen, that can have great implications in such areas as emergencies and even art. This is Colossal writes, "The Aerial Burton works by firing a 1kHz infrared pulse directly into a 3D scanner which in turn focuses and reflects the laser to a specific point in the air. Molecules at the end of the laser then ionize, releasing energy in the form of photons."

The demonstration of the Aerial Burton is quite beautiful. Like a series of sparks or even a trailing fairy for the truly imaginative, it spins and darts mid-air. The Aerial Burton was developed in Japan.
