The OurNotes Scheme Lets Patients Contribute to and Access Medical Records

This platform allows people in the United States to contribute to and access medical records. OurNotes (part of the OpenNotes program) applies specifically to patients with electronic health records.

The Commonwealth grant-funded initiative is currently being researched in Boston at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center as well as four other locations in the United States. The country-wide scheme has already enabled 5 million people to access medical records.

This program is particularly beneficial for patients with a complex medical history, with multiple chronic conditions affecting their health. By being ably to list topics, questions and other notes in advance of an appointment, patients can keep organized while doctors can prepare and research beforehand. This ensures everyone is on the same page.
