Porsche Has Unveiled The 919 Hybrid To Compete In The 2014 Le Mans Race

After a 16-year hiatus, Porsche re-enters the Le Mans with the Porsche 919 Hybrid. The car is brand new inside and out, Porsche calls it the most advanced race car it's ever built.

New regulations for the Le Mans race require the cars to more closely represent the consumption and technology of today's road cars. The 919 uses a 2.0 litre turbocharged V4 gas engine with two added energy recovery systems. The energy recovery systems collect excess energy from the exhaust gases and kinetic energy from braking. The Porsche 919 Hybrid has 500 horsepower and can use the front wheels for all-wheel drive when it needs to. The engine powers the rear wheels while the electric drive system powers the front wheels.

The car itself looks ferociously fast and Porsche wouldn't enter the 919 Hybrid in the Le Mans unless it had a strong chance to win. So watch out Audi and Toyota, Porsche is back.
