Meta Launches Updates Improving Its 3D Avatars for Facebook & Insta

Meta (formerly Facebook) has launched a new and improved process for its 3D avatar creation on Facebook, Messenger, and Instagram. The new avatars arrive with greater customization options and much more refined features, allowing users to create characters that actually resemble themselves.

While Instagram has offered digital avatars to its users since 2019, the feature never took off in a major way. Now, with these new updates, it is clear that Meta is aiming for the feature to become more commonly used as it will open up new opportunities for sponsored content. In addition, it will further the brand's expansion into the metaverse by introducing users to digital avatars that can eventually be used in an entirely virtual world.

"VR and Quest are key parts of our metaverse vision, but we see the metaverse as an interconnected digital world, one that bridges VR and AR, in addition to more familiar platforms like your phone and computer. Rolling out avatars across our platforms is an early step towards making this a reality" said the company in a recent press statement.
