Curved Illuminated Buildings

The International Youth Culture Centre Building Glows With LED Lights

The International Youth Culture Centre in Nanjing, China was designed by Zaha Hadid, which is no surprise given the building's curved form -- a trademark of Hadid's. This building features a Philips LED system that has 700,000 nodes and a palette of 16 million colors. Despite this, it still costs less than $122 a day to light.

The 700,000 nodes are Philips iColor Flex MX LED lights that are flexible in their installation. They are extremely energy-efficient and can save up to 60% in electricity in comparison to normal colored LED lighting. In addition, Philips Vaya Linear LED lights are used to create striking vertical lines that run up the sides of the buildings.

As architectural design moves forward, it's of paramount importance to keep sustainability in mind, and this building proves that eye-catching, modern architecture and design doesn't have to imply extravagant financial and energy cost.
