'Xylome' Has Created 'Yoil' as a Sustainable Alternative to Palm Oil

'Xylome,' a biotechnology company based out of Wisconsin, USA, has begun large-scale testing of 'Yoil' a yeast-based palm oil alternative. The palm oil industry contributes to a large amount of deforestation each year, leading to there being a very real societal demand for a sustainable alternative. Yoil, according to Xylome and early testers, is nearly identical to palm oil in its mouthfeel and taste.

Yoil is made from yeast as opposed to tree oils, making its production far more sustainable for the environment. On top of this, palm oils need to be bleached as part of their refinement process, while Yoil does not. This means that Yoil potentially carries less harmful chemicals within it than existing alternatives. Yoil has not yet been FDA approved, but Xylome has sent out testing samples to brands and factories for preliminary partnership building.
