Iconic Blocked Portraits

Pixoblok Art by Mauricio Buitrago is Intriguing

Pixoblok Art by Mauricio Buitrago is an intriguing collection comprised of pixelated-looking portraits. Buitrago has been exhibiting since 2008 with a clever technique he now calls 'Pixokraft.' He uses small tile-like cubes called Pixobloks to create these masterpieces.

He started with the technique in 2005, and makes each individual piece with wood. The effect of a finished piece is great, and up-close it delivers a colorful abstract feel. From a distance the image emerges making it a cool medium to display patterns, portraits or simple 8-bit-style designs.

It's amazing how Buitrago is able to make works with such a pixelated nature with only the use of wood. His skill demonstrates what can be done with even the most basic of tools.
