Johan Sundberg Arkitektur designed this wooden summer house, located on the southern coast of Sweden, for a young family.
The timber and glass body of the 'Sommarhus Akenine' is raised off the ground with a set of three concrete beams. The purpose of elevating the home was ensuring that the home would be level, not to mention the elevation offers protection from the risk of rising tide from the Swedish coastline. There was also an aesthetic element to the decision, which architect Johan Sundberg explains by saying, "I wanted the house to sit lightly on the ground, to feel elevated and transparent to the visitor arriving from the north."
The single-storey building is clad in Siberian larch, which is the primary material used for the home, both inside and out.
