These Wooden Records From Amanda Ghassaei are Fully Playable

We've seen wooden turntables -- but wooden records? Designer Amanda Ghassaei has successfully crafted wooden vinyl technology that is fully playable on any turntable/record player.

The concept is successful through the act of laser cutting material which in the process transfers sound data. Wood is just one example, but the actual process can be replicated on materials like acrylic or even paper.

Amanda uses a program called Python to pull an audio file which is then customized and processed in a different data form; she then uses an Epilog Legend EXT laser cutter to transfer the data to the medium which can then be played back on any standard record player.

The actual sound is apparently not as crisp as real vinyl -- but if you're playing a song off a piece of paper, someone better give you a break.
