Hybrid Power Arrays

The World's Largest Wind-Solar Array was Installed by Windstream Technologies

Windstream Technologies has installed what it claims to be the world's largest wind-solar hybrid array, situated on the rooftop of an office building in the Jamaican capital Kingston.

The installation incorporates 50 of WindStream's special 'SolarMill' devices. The SolarMill models consist of one or more solar panels and three or more turbines. This way, energy is captured at all times regardless of whether the weather is predominantly sunny or windy.

Windstream Technologies' array is expected to generate 25 kW of wind power and 55 kW of solar power, and will be capable of generating an impresive 106,000 kWh of energy per year. The company believes that the installation will generate savings of around $2 million over the course of 25 years, its estimated lifespan.

The installation is part of a wider effort by Jamaica's energy provider Jamaica Public Service to embrace renewable energy.
