The Wigl Robot Moves to Music

The Wigl is a cute little educational robot, developed by electrical engineer Vivek Mano, that responds to musical notes by rocking dance moves and emitting lights. The robot is intended to change the way kids approach learning and learn about robots.

The Wigl is equipped with a built-in microphone that recognizes notes played externally on an instrument. Each note provokes the bot into moving in a specific way or lighting its LEDs. For example, the note C could cause it to take a right turn, and F# could put it in 'reverse gear.' Wigl can process and register notes from any musical instrument that produces musical notes, with the exception of percussive instruments such as drums.

Mano hopes to use his innovative creation to foster creative approaches to learning, particularly in schools with technology programs.
