A Team of Researchers at MIT are Exploring WiFi Charging

Terahertz radiation is all around us and created by an array of the technology we have in our homes, so a group of researchers at MIT are working on harnessing its power for WiFi charging. The team of researchers at MIT have developed a terahertz rectifier that's achieved with a small square of graphene that has been paired with a layer of boron nitride beneath it and an antenna on both sides. This would work by capturing terahertz radiation from the air and boosting the signal as it passes through the graphene to create a direct current that could be used for powering batteries.

The WiFi charging technology was boasted by lead author of the study Hiroki Isobe who said, We are surrounded by electromagnetic waves in the terahertz range. If we can convert that energy into an energy source we can use for daily life, that would help to address the energy challenges we are facing right now."
