Citrulline Watermelon the New Viagra?

Watermelon is a favourite fruit for many people for it is refreshingly juicy. It is also has health benefits like being a very good source of vitamin C and A and has significant amounts of vitamin B1 and B6. However, scientists at Texas A&M's Fruit and Vegetable Improvement Center have discovered that the humble watermelon is more than just a good source of vitamins and other beneficial nutrients. One of these nutrients, called citrulline, is able to relax blood vessels which is exactly what Viagra, the drug for erectile dysfunction, does.

Citrulline could thus be a cheap, non-pharmaceutical alternative to Viagra and one without any side effects. It is not clear exactly how much watermelon one needs to consume when the mood strikes you and your partner. The scientists do, however, recommend that watermelons be stored at room temperature but to refrigerate them once cut.
