Compact Water Microreactors

This Water Treatment Solution Uses Ultraviolet Energy

A group of scientists and researchers working out of the SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory, a division of the US Department of Energy, have collaborated with Stanford University scientists to develop an innovative new water treatment solution that draws on the powers of sunlight in order to be able to kill bacteria.

The rectangular-shaped device is smaller than a stamp, but is still capable of killing 99.999 percent of bacteria in a matter of 20 minutes. Placed in a clear container of water, this water treatment solution provokes the creation of hydrogen peroxide and other disinfectants within the water. Once the bacteria are destroyed, the chemicals too dissipate, leaving clean water behind.

This water treatment solution is an ingenious invention for its efficiency as well as its compactness, something which makes it easier to deploy.
