After the release of the King Kong movie in 1933, this ape become a pop culture figure, and now artist Walton Ford remains audiences why this Hollywood start became popular. These watercolor paintings show another side of the wild monster, a side that is more vulnerable and humanistic.
These three large art pieces, along with six more from the artist, are currently exhibited at the Paul Kasmin Gallery in New York. Ford declares the purpose of his work to the gallery, "Since Kong is a Hollywood tough guy, he covers up his heartbreak with violence and anger. These paintings are about Kong's heartbreak. I wanted to reveal the monster's grief, his enormous sadness, the sorrow that the original Kong kept hidden from view." And this is what this soft-hearten ape expresses in these fun paintings.
