Walmart and Rubi Labs Have Partnered on a Pilot Project

Walmart and Rubi Labs have announced a new pilot project that will see the brands partnering to create an affordable collection of apparel from carbon emissions. The project will see Rubi utilizing biochemical processes including enzymes that will consume carbon emissions and product resource-neutral, carbon-negative textiles on an industrial scale. The process results in cellulose that is used as. the basis for lyocell yarn, which in turn is ready for use in manufacturing clothing and an array of additional materials.

Executive Vice President, Sourcing at Walmart Andrea Albright spoke on the Walmart and Rubi Labs partnership saying, "This technology could play an important role in our journey towards zero waste and zero emissions. We see the opportunity to use our scale and reach to have a positive impact wherever we operate, and we’re committed to accelerate this impact through our products, services and business practices. Walmart’s joint effort with Rubi underscores this commitment."
