Air-Filtering Crossover Concepts

The Volkswagen I.D. Crozz Provides Passengers Clean Air Anywhere

The Volkswagen I.D. Crozz, which just debuted at the 2017 Shanghai Auto Show, is the latest model in the German automaker's electric I.D. lineup. While some cars at the show are for the Chinese market only, the I.D. Crozz is built with the world in mind. The Volkswagen I.D. Crozz is powered by two electric motors making a combined 302 horsepower. Rear-wheel drive is standard but all-wheel drive can be activated at the touch of a button.

Max range is 311 miles and top speed is 112 mph. Future-forward features include an air filtration system and an autonomous driving system that sees the steering wheel retract into the dashboard. The Volkswagen I.D. Crozz will apparently see production in 2020, and unfortunately its most ambitious features (that retractable steering wheel) will probably not make it out of the concept stage. That being said the stylish and futuristic interior and exterior and that 311-mile max electric range all seem like they'll make it from concept to reality.
Trend Themes
1. Electric Crossover Vehicles - The ability to create models with 300+ miles on a single electric charge creates an opportunity for energy efficient models to become the industry standard.
2. Autonomous Vehicle Features - As vehicles with autonomous features are deployed at scale, passenger comfort features including air filtration and fold-away steering wheels will be necessary to keep riders engaged and satisfied.
3. Air Filtration Systems - Given increasing concern about air pollution in cities, all industries would do well to invest in air filtration technologies as a way to improve air quality for users.
Industry Implications
1. Automotive Industry - Automakers are looking to electric vehicles as a way to decarbonize transportation, and emerging features like autonomous and air filtration technologies are helping to further distinguish new models.
2. Technology Industry - New technologies like air filters and autonomous systems need to integrate seamlessly with existing vehicle tech to ensure cars remain safe, reliable, and up to date.
3. Environmental Industry - As concerns around climate change and air pollution continue to mount, air filtration technologies like the one present in the Volkswagen I.D. Crozz have a role to play in promoting public health and reducing smog.
