I IN Uses Yellow and Green to Create Vivid Toilet Interiors

Local design studio I IN creates two vivid toilet interiors in the Shin-Marunouchi shopping center in Chiyoda City, Tokyo. The firm was tasked with overhauling the existing public restrooms and delivering a functional, aesthetically pleasing design.

I IN went with a light-filled and neon-like approach, creating two contemporary vivid toilet interiors that will surely draw attention while not being too obtrusive. Color engulfs the entire interior of the restrooms, with I IN employing yellow for the female toilet and green for the male. While this will be the standard chromatic composition of the interiors, the restrooms an change colors for seasonal events.

The space is also "wrapped [...] in tiles to express the feeling of cleanliness" and to evoke "a sense of purity." I IN sourced the mosaic tiles from the Tajimi area in Japan.
