GIPHY Created a Video Platform for Short GIFs with No Sound

GIPHY created a new Video platform that will show GIFs that have no accompanying sound. Additionally, GIPHY will use the new video platform to showcase content from a number of different organizations that it has partnered with including Universal Pictures, Geffen Records, as well as BBC America.

The platform will be restricted to short clips that will have a maximum length of 30 seconds. However, the company recommends capping clips at 15-seconds in order to keep viewers engaged. The GIPHY CEO, Alex Chung, indicated that the platform will not be open to public users.

Alex Chung also spoke about the process of GIFs becoming a popular medium, "when they did eventually hit the mainstream, it was meme culture and the Extremely Online types that got them there — not corporations."
