Hitzig Militello Architects designed the Victoria Brown coffee shop, bar and restaurant inside of a former warehouse in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
The architects were inspired by the construction style that dominated the Industrial Revolution; however, to keep things current, they inserted contemporary design elements throughout. One of the architect's challenges was maintaining a balance between the raw, unfinished industrial look and a level of elegance for the patrons.
Because the space accommodates both a coffee shop and a bar, organization was key. The architects busied themselves with coming up with an overall design. They chose to install "secret" brick-clad doors, pandering to the concept of the hidden bar, typical of the early 20th century. Meanwhile, the coffee place in the front, which completely ignores the hidden bar, takes on the aesthetic of a New York bakery.
