Electric-Bicycle Sharing Services

VeloMetro Offers Flexible Transportation for City Dwellers

As city dwellers continue to ditch their cars for more affordable and more convenient transit options, a startup called VeloMetro is on a mission to meet the growing need for flexible personal transportation. However, instead of bikes or small vehicles, VeloMetro is providing consumers with a more unique -- and eco-friendly -- way to get around.

Veemo is an app-based, dockless, electric-assist cycle sharing service created by VeloMetro. The service will be launched in Vancouver to provide consumers with a way to escape the torment of urban travel, while still enjoying the freedom to navigate the city with ease. In other words, the service aims "to redefine how people take short-distance trips in an urban center." As a result, anyone will be able to download the app, sign up an account, and jump in for a ride across town, paying 28¢ per minute or less.

However, unlike other car-sharing services, the Veemo fleet is not made up of conventional vehicles. Instead, drivers are provided with an enclosed, electric-assisted, three-wheeled cycle known as the Veemo. The hybrid trike offers many of the advantages of a car, including weather protection, cargo space, power windows, and advanced GPS navigation, alongside the flexibility of a bicycle. Because the vehicle is regulated as a bicycle, riders do not need a driver's license to take a Veemo out for a spin. Riders also have the advantage of using the bike lanes, meaning they aren't forced to sit in congested traffic on busy days.

While the notion of powering a three-wheeled cycle through busy city streets may sound intimidating, the process is made much easier by Veemo's uniquely engineered design. Each vehicle is equipped with patented pedal-electric drivetrain, which adds the strength of two to four Olympic athletes as you pedal. The hyper-modern vehicles are also equipped with other smart features such as automatic door locks, daytime/nighttime lighting, illuminated turn indicators and a horn. The vehicles are even equipped with a rooftop solar panel that can extend the vehicle's range by up to 20 km per day, and heated grips that keeps you warm when it's cold outside.

Fast, economical and environmentally friendly, Veemo represents the not-so-distant future of urban transit for the modern city dweller.
