Christoph Kurzmann Plays Around with Old Dorm Furniture

The Upscaling Upcycling project is an example of how effortlessly stylish and functional upcycled dorm furniture can be. The design endeavor was undertaken by Christoph Kurzmann, a student at Oxford Brookes University who saw a great opportunity when the institution was renovating and refurbishing 250 student bedrooms and planning to chuck the old dorm furniture into landfills. While traditional dorm furniture is known to be bland and nothing special, the upcycled dorm furniture resulting from Christoph Kurzmann's projects has a timelessly chic sensibility to it. The transformation of the old pieces is unrecognizable—the bedframes transitioned to stackable stools and the drawers turned into "storage towers that act more like shelves."

The Upscaling Upcycling project is a great example of how institutions can be more eco-friendly during renovations.
