Unwitting Wi-Fi Campaigns

F-Secure Shows Warns Against Joining an Unsecured Wi-Fi Network

In an attempt to exploit the dangers of signing on to an unsecured Wi-Fi network, F-Secure set up a stunt that represented signing more than just your privacy away.

In order to show what happens when you unwittingly sign on to a free, open network and disregard the terms and conditions, F-Secure put in a 'Herod Clause' with its free Wi-Fi spots. The terms of the clause specified that in order to access the free network, the user would agree to give up their eldest child "for the duration of eternity." Despite the legal bindings of the agreement, F-Secure's stunt is only meant to teach people a valuable lesson, especially when it comes to random Wi-Fi networks in your area that are all too easy to access.
