Fantastically Fun Cartoons

Yanko Tsvetkov's 'Unfinished Fairy Tale' is Completely Awesome

Graphic designer Yanko Tsvetkov's the 'Unfinished Fairy Tale' may not be complete, but it is off to a good start. The punchy, colorful cartoons grab one's attention and hold it.

In one picture, a highway snakes into a city full of topsy-turvy skyscrapers. In another, a smiling fairy levitates in front of tall, thin wooden houses. This sort of whimsy permeates the whole series. In more than a few ways, the 'Unfinished Fairy Tale' is reminiscent of a 19th century L'Art Naif painting. Without trying to make an overstatement, the muted sense of depth, child-like perspective and dreamy mood would all be at home in a Henri Rousseau piece. Yet, the 'Unfinished Fairy Tale' is unmistakably 21st century. This is what makes it interesting; it has the benefit of techniques and knowledge acquired cumulatively over history but a style and approach all its own.
