Alluring Typewriter Artwork

These Pieces of Art Were All Created Using a Typewriter

These typewriter artworks are from a collection called 'The Art of Typewriting' that celebrates 100 years of the now rarely used writing machine. Impressively, all of these works that feature abstract images, dizzying patterns and intricate portraits were all made through a typewriter. Artists had to manually adjust paper to make sure certain characters landed on strategically chosen spots.

In assessing the 200-piece display, graphic designer John Maeda said that each piece cannot be replicated on computers. Despite vast technological and digital advances, these type-writer artworks can only be done through the old analog device. Furthermore, each imperfection adds to the authenticity of the pieces displaying the rather laborious method through which each piece went through. The entire collection is available in 'The Art of Typewriting' book.
