Timber is used to create furniture all the time, but the Tree Trunk Chair uses it in a different way to create a grand piece of home decor. The chair is crafted from the trunk of a tree, but instead of being made using wood that is sourced today the chair is grown in nature. A mold is strategically placed next to a young tree that will allow the tree to grow over it and create the perfect seat.
The process to create this wooden chair would take an estimated 200-years in order to be grown, which reminds us of just how long trees and timber take to produce. The Tree Trunk Chair is the design work of Maarten Bass and Gavin Munro, and was presented at Dutch Design Week.
