Toronto's Gardiner Expressway Could Become ‘Green Ribbon'

Toronto’s Gardiner Expressway could one day be called the "Green Ribbon." For those who know the highway which heads into the core of the city from the west, the title seems somewhat hard to imagine. The road is famous for traffic jams, billboards and some awfully strange bumps which when driving over you swear you are going to catch air.

Well ‘catch air’ you might—fresh air, that is, if the eco and people-friendly proposal by Quadrangle Architects goes through. The design includes wind turbines and a raised sinuous green space which both pedestrians and cyclists could enjoy accessible by stairways at major intersections and various ramps.

A park-like setting high above the roaring traffic; what a welcome transformation that would be for any metropolis the size of Toronto, Canada.
