Water Balloon-Inspired Lights

Torafu Creates Light Installments that Resemble Water Balloons

In light of the IFFT Interior Design Show that took place in Tokyo, architects and designers Koichi Suzuno and Shinya Kamuro of Japanese-based studio Torafu Architects have cleverly created interior lighting design inspired by the process of a water balloon being filled up under a faucet. The shape of the lightbulb becomes an embodiment of the water as it swells and expands like a water balloon.

Basing the design on the theme of light, the due crafted the material and glass with the help of a glass artist to transform the recycled fluorescent light bulbs into beautiful recreations of a lighting art installment.

The result is a beautifully surreal installment where each bulb is illuminated using LED lights and the glass serves as a magnifying glass to enlarge the suspended bubbles of air and to illuminate the swollen contours of the glass.
