Water towers are usually dull and come off as industrial-like but Tom Fruin manages to turn one into an attractive site.
This luminous art installation entitled ‘Watertower’ is a 25 by 10 foot water tank that can be spotted from New York City’s skyline. Fruin is a Brooklyn-based artist who gathered 1,000 pieces of colorful plexiglass salvaged from all over the city. The kaleidoscopic water tower sits atop of a Brooklyn building situated on the east river waterfront.
The water tank is illuminated with sunlight during the day and glows in the night with a light show set within the structure. The photographs show the perspective from inside the water tower; some have empty spaces showing a natural view while others are distorted with eccentric colored glass. Watertower by Tom Fruin will be running until the end of June.
