The Aakash2 is a second generation tablet that comes to us from Indian manufacturer DataWind, and retails for a jaw dropping $40.41 (2,263 rupees). Yes that’s right! All for less than $41 you receive a tablet that is Android-powered, has 512 MB of RAM, a multi-touch screen, a camera, as well as an internal microphone and speakers. It even has what many wished the ever-popular iPad contained: a USB hub.
The Aakash2 interestingly enough doesn’t aim to have the same market audience as the other more popular tablet manufacturers, rather its goal is to provide aid to the ever-increasing illiteracy epidemic in India. With the government planning to subsidize half the cost of the tablet for school children, the tablet aims to provide unprecedented access to technology and information otherwise unavailable to them.
For those of you interested in this ultra affordable piece of technology, DataWind plans on selling the device in the U.S. in early 2013.
