The Billy Nunez ‘The Wizard of Oz in China’ Series is

In this adorable adaption Billy Nunez transports the L Frank Baum’s classic children’s tale to China. The series, entitled ‘The Wizard of Oz in China,’ was created by Boston-based graphic designer and illustrator Billy Nunez. In it, the viewer sees heroine Dorothy along with her friends become Chinoiserie versions of themselves. Nunez uses the same wonderful storyline about a girl trying to find her way home, tweaking it ever so slightly.

In this version, Nunez uses a little Chinese girl makes her way across the Great Wall with the help of the pals she meets along the way. Though they have the same personality traits, characters change visually as the Tin Man becomes a samurai, the lion a tiger, and the scarecrow a slightly different version of himself. The retelling found in these adorable drawings are a great way to find a new audience wanting to click their ruby slippers to return home.
