Self-Contained Concept Trikes (UPDATE)

The Toyota i-Road Will See a Production Run in Japan

The Toyota i-Road, the three-wheeled electric concept that stole part of the show at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show, is reportedly going from concept to reality. When Toyota debuted the i-Road it said that it was production-ready and now it's ready to prove that. A total of 100 Toyota i-Roads will be produced, but the unique three-wheeler won't be widely available.

All 100 i-Roads will be located in Toyota City, Japan, where it will be a part of a car-sharing program. If things go well in Japan, it's not outside the realm of possibility that the Toyota i-Road could see a wider release. It has attributes that appeal to many urbanites, such as its electric engine, compact profile and groundbreaking design. Its limited range (30 miles) may scare some folks off, but such a distance is just fine for short commutes in big cities.
